journey of our world’s riches
Jemstone beads are the product of large and small mines all over the world. When workers find a vein of colored crystal running through the surrounding rock, they collect as much as they can find and ship the rough stone primarily to India, Indonesia, Brazil, and China for cutting. When all the crystal is cut into a particular shape of bead, that is the end of that particular color, and texture of gem. There is no more. The next find in the same mine is often a slightly different color, or has a different pattern of occlusions. This restricts the designer to very limited batches of materials. The end result is that most designs cannot be reproduced over and over again, and most will run for only the amount of materials collected by the original purchase.
